In an interview with Famitsu, the Final Fantasy XIV development team hinted at a new area that could appear in future content updates. Final Fantasy XIV Lead Scenario Designer Natsuko Ishikawa mentioned that she wanted to include this specific line that suggested players would be introduced to a new area. Producer Naoki Yoshida reiterated in the interview that the story of Final Fantasy XIV isn’t complete, despite the saga of Zodiark and Hydaelyn coming to a close. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Lead Scenario Designer Banri Oda also revealed that there is an entire continent in Final Fantasy XIV players have yet to visit:

There is another continent players haven’t had the chance to visit. When preparing for Endwalker, I drew an entire map of the world because I had to prepare for a scene of a certain character looking up from the Moon.

In the interview, Meracydia is brought up as a place that has yet to be explored. Oda mentioned that due to the nature of Final Fantasy XIV being an MMORPG, there should be a feeling that the adventure hasn’t ended.

Regarding story content, Yoshida stated that he doesn’t want the scale of the story to increase with every expansion. Instead, he is using the finale of Endwalker as the catalyst for upcoming story content, as explained below.

Editor’s Note: The next paragraph has major spoilers for Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.

There are many different shards after all, and if we decide to pull from the multiverse, anything is possible… In previous Final Fantasy titles we’ve fought against the “void” and “nothingness,” so the possibilities are endless. However, since we fought against the manifestation of despair, I don’t believe the next antagonist should necessarily have to one-up the previous one. Or that the story has to have a larger scale. Zenos brought the player back to their “adventurer” roots in that final scene, and I think we should focus more on that aspect.

While information concerning Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1 was revealed during a previous broadcast, which teased new main scenario quests, a second broadcast will be held on April 1, 2022 containing further information.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1 will release sometime in mid-April 2022.
