Bandai Namco has uploaded a new trailer for One Piece Odyssey, showing gameplay set in Alabasta. Though the game is situated long after the actual events of the Alabasta. storyline, a new feature allows the Straw Hats to relive their most memorable adventures. Through a feature called “Memoria”, Luffy and the crew can visit the desert nation ruled by princess Vivi.

The new trailer also gives the most substantial look yet at live One Piece Odyssey gameplay. Battles, exploration, cutscenes and unique mechanics are all shown off. Each of the Straw Hat Pirates Crew has a unique Field Action that allows them to traverse the environment effectively. For example, Luffy can stretch his limbs to reach far-off locations, and Chopper can fit into small spaces. Usopp can hit targets in the environment with his slingshot. The game’s battle system is turn-based, and players will be able to switch out party members to best suit the type of enemy faced. There are also variations that mix up the order of battle, such as the Scramble Area, a condition that separates the characters into different areas and forces them to fight on their own. Characters with long range attacks, like Nami and Usopp, can lend a hand to their mates. Dramatic Scenes impose special conditions on the battle, such as having to help a party member in crisis. Fulfilling the conditions unlocks bonus rewards and special dialog exchanges.
One Piece Odyssey launches on January 12, 2023 on PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and on PC on January 13th. A limited edition will also include a figure.
