There’s been a lot of good news about Pokémon Legends: Arceus this week, and to add to it – we’ve got some updated sales information about the previous mainline entry on the Switch, Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Serebii webmaster Joe Merrick has highlighted how Sword and Shield have moved up the Pokémon ladder – surpassing Pokémon Gold and Silver lifetime sales (sitting at 23,700,000). This has been expected for some time now.

Nintendo’s latest financial data reveals Sword and Shield are now just under 24 million units, although the original Game Boy titles from ’96 are still out in front. Here are the latest figures:

Red / Green / Blue – 31,380,000
Sword / Shield – 23,900,000
Gold / Silver – 23,700,000
Diamond / Pearl – 17,670,000
X / Y – 16,580,000
Sun / Moon – 16,270,000
Ruby / Sapphire – 16,220,000
Black / White – 15,640,000
Yellow – 14,640,000
Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire – 14,460,000
Let’s Go, Pikachu / Eevee – 14,330,000
Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl – 13,970,000
HeartGold / SoulSilver – 12,720,000
FireRed / LeafGreen – 12,000,000
Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon – 8,890,000
Black 2 / White 2 – 8,250,000
Platinum – 7,693,000
Emerald – 7,060,000
Crystal – 6,300,000

And in terms of lifetime sales – Sword and Shield are now the fifth highest-selling Nintendo Switch title since arriving in 2019.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus also got off to a strong start last week during its launch – with Nintendo announcing it’s already shifted over 6.5 million copies around the globe.

Have you contributed to these sales? Do you think Sword and Shield have any chance of topping the list one day? Leave your thoughts down below.
