Gunzilla Games, the developer who has teamed up with District 9 Director Neill Blomkamp and Crysis Script Writer Richard K. Morgan, has finally announced a AAA cyberpunk-styled Battle Royale third-person shooter. Off The Grid will be coming to next-gen consoles (PS5 and XSX) and PC at some point next year.

Introducing Off The Grid: a PS5 Battle Royale 2.0

Off The Grid, shortened to OTG, takes place in the middle of a covert corporate war on a dystopian tropical island. After choosing their faction, up to 150 players will battle each other in PvP skirmishes, but there will also be PvE storyline, assassination, and sabotage missions taking place on the very same map in real-time. Every decision a player makes has the potential to change the gameplay for everybody else with factions being able to claim a bigger market share. Players will also be able to craft, customize, and trade in-game items with each other in a “unique way”.

As well as Blomkamp and Morgan, the team has been joined by Executive Narrative Director Olivier Henriot, who has previously worked on Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed. Blomkamp explains what the trio is trying to achieve:

With OTG, our ambition is not only to create the Battle Royale 2.0 by adding deep player progression, but to build an evolving world designed to take on a life of its own, changing in unexpected ways each time a player rejoins the game. With an innovative approach to the Battle Royale core session flow and a deep narrative experience, we add purpose to each element of the game, allowing players to revisit the OTG world repeatedly where there is always something new to find and explore, and for us to expand upon.

Off The Grid is currently scheduled to come to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023.

In other news, Dying Light standard edition owners can get a free upgrade to the Enhanced Edition from today. Elsewhere, a Digital Foundry comparison claims that VRR on PS5 is not as good as VRR on Xbox Series X|S.
