GTA+ GTA Online GTA 5 PlayStation 5 1

Like many of its live service peers – including the likes of Fortnite and Minecraft – the ever-popular GTA Online is getting an optional monthly subscription. Imaginatively entitled GTA+, the membership – which will be exclusive to the new-gen version of the game, including PlayStation 5 – will cost $5.99 per month, and will dollop users with a variety of in-game perks. Existing players will not have to pay for GTA+ to play, although a PS Plus subscription will still be required.

The headline here is GTA$500,000 every single month, deposited directly into your Maze Bank account. A Bull Shark card costs about $9.99 in real money, making this a potentially good purchase for those who regularly spend money on microtransactions. However, it’s worth remembering that up until recently, Sony was giving PS Plus members GTA$1,000,000 at no extra cost.

GTA+ does come with other perks, including free cars, businesses, and more. The first batch of freebies include exclusive early access to the Principe Deveste Eight, and a free Hao’s Special Works upgrades, along with the HSW Orange Trip and HSW CMYK Glitch Liveries. You’ll also get a complimentary Auto Shop in La Mesa, and if you already own an Auto Shop elsewhere, you can relocate for free.

Other goodies through 27th April include your LS Car Meet fees being waived, and those of you who’ve already paid will get a rebate. If you’ve got a Galaxy Super Yacht then you’ll be able to upgrade to the Aquarius Super Yacht for free, while you’ll get the Gussét Frog Tee and Broker Prolaps Basketball Top and Shorts automatically added to your wardrobe.

Beyond that, you can look forward to the Conveyor livery for a variety of vehicles, a selection of complimentary paints at the Auto Shop, and boosted rewards in Hao’s Special Works Race Series and the Street Race Series. The final perk is that any members who buy Shark Cards from the PS Store will get bonus in-game currency added on top every time.

To be honest, this is the kind of thing that you’d expect a GTA game to parody, but the lure of cold, hard cash is clearly too much for Rockstar to resist. And to be fair, it’s not the first title to add a paid subscription to its service game – in fact, we’re surprised it’s taken this long. The rewards will rotate every month, and you can find out more through here, with memberships opening from 29th March.
