After months of speculation and cease and desist letters to third-party companies, Sony has revealed their first official replaceable covers for the PS5 console. There will be five different colored covers available, all of which will match Dualsense controllers of the same color. This means there has also been three new color variants of the DualSense controller announced.

The five covers will come in Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple colors. Together they make up the Galaxy Collection. The first two colors will match the existing DualSense controllers in Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. The other three are brand new colors and they’ll be getting DualSense controllers to match them.

All of the covers will be available for both the disc console and the digital-only console and will simply click into place after the original white covers have been removed. An official console teardown video released in October 2020 showed just how easy it is to remove the covers and how simple it is to apply customized faceplates.

The three new DualSense controller variants will be released “starting” in January 2022. As for the console covers, the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red will also be available “starting” in January 2022 in the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines. The remaining three colors will also be released in those regions before the end of June 2022. If you don’t see your country on the above list, don’t panic as Sony is promising to bring the covers to more regions throughout 2022.

Sony did add that customers in the US, UK, France, and Germany would be able to get early access to some of these items if they order through Playstation Direct. The Galactic Purple DualSense controller will be available from January 14 on PlayStation Direct before heading to other retailers on February 11. Meanwhile, the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red PS5 covers will be available fro January 21 on PlayStation Direct before arriving at other retailers on February 18.
