Ten years ago today — that’s almost two years before the release of The Witcher 3 — CD Projekt Red dropped the now infamous teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077. It would take another eight years for the Polish studio to releases its open world RPG, but back then, this CG teaser was an absolutely huge deal.
It’s been viewed 26 million times since, and to be fair, it’s easy to see why. It’s a fantastic trailer, even if it doesn’t have that much to do with the actual game that we eventually got in 2020. The music, the tone…it’s still well worth a watch a whole decade later.

At the time, the teaser had people thinking that you’d be playing as a MaxTac operative — a special division of the Night City police force which deals with extremely dangerous cyberpsychos. While MaxTac does appear in the finished game, its role is limited, with only one small (and easily missable) side quest dealing with the department directly.
Still, it’s always interesting to look back on stuff like this, knowing what we know now. It’s also crazy to think that, again, this trailer dropped two years before the launch of The Witcher 3. Talk about early announcements!
