Even with videogame graphics the way they are nowadays, fire is still up there with water in terms of difficult things to render properly in games. Just as well then that this latest release uses pixel art instead to render their fire. And with a name like Arsonist Heaven, out today on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, you can bet your bottom dollar that there is a lot of fire to generate.

On the surface, Arsonist Heaven looks like a very generic 2D action platformer. Instead of jumping on the heads on enemies to defeat them however, you are armed to the teeth with fire-based weaponry. Unleash your flamethrowers, fire bullets and launchers at anything and everything that moves. And if you get in a bit of a bind, how does a jetpack sound for a quick escape?

Be warned though, these monsters are big. Those that don’t attack you with melee and brute force will likely have projectiles of their own all heading your way. Your weapons are limited in their use too; the last thing you want to do is run out of ammo. To make matters worse, your jetpack can also run out of fuel, really leaving you in the lurch if the worst happens.

One thing you really shouldn’t struggle with though is the achievements. Arsonist Heaven is a collaboration between eastasiasoft and Ratalaika Games, who have plenty of experience in quick and easy Gamerscore.

If, you’ll allow me this one pun, Arsonist Heaven wont’ burn a hole in your pocket. It is on the Xbox Store now priced at £4.19. Expect to find it on PlayStation and Switch storefronts too.

We will have a review coming soon to answer all your burning questions and not leave you hot under the collar. Who knows, it may even ignite something inside of you to give this game a try? Ok, a few more puns, but fire over your best ones in the comments below.

Game description

Strap on a jet pack and grab a flamethrower to hunt down monstrous foes! Get ready to blaze through your enemies with as much firepower as you can carry! It’s hunt or be hunted in a game of side-scrolling survival. Arsonist Heaven is an action platformer presented in retro pixel art style. Take the role of a hunter in a flame-retardant hazard suit and equipped with a jet pack as you traverse a wide variety of biomes, from forests and icy mountains to deserts and volcanic caverns. But be careful! Each stage is filled with roving enemies. Some monsters attack with brute force, while others carry melee weapons or emit magic projectiles. To even the odds and eliminate them before they take you down, you’ll need to utilize an arsenal of unique firearms, launchers and flamethrowers. Once ammo is depleted, be sure to have another weapon on-hand or you’ll be left defenseless! The jet pack could be your savior, but fuel is limited. It’s a brutal ballet of balancing resources as you outlast the opposition!
