For many the mere mention of an Oddworld game ushers up memories of Abe and Munch, even more so after the recent release of the brilliant Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition. But there’s more to this universe and some seventeen years ago Stranger rocked up to deliver his wrath to the OG Xbox. It’s fair to say it didn’t go down as well as expected. Now though he’s back, as Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD hits Xbox and PlayStation.

Available to purchase and download right now from the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store – following on from a similar launch a couple of years back on Nintendo Switch, Stranger’s Wrath HD combines both first and third person viewpoints, freely switchable by the player, shooting action, platforming elements and puzzling. Oh, and it comes with some of the best ammo options available in any game.

It’s priced at £16.74 from the Xbox Store and sees you joining the titular Stranger as he heads off into a sci-fi Wild West world in hope of gaining some moolah and picking up some bounties. You’ll do this mostly by utilising Stranger’s unique weapon of choice; a crossbow that fire ‘live’ ammo in the form of little critters. Making the most of these for the situation at hand will determine who you find success in this adventure.

With the HD tag added to the usual title, Stranger’s Wrath HD on Xbox and PlayStation throws out 4K visuals, 60fps gameplay, improved audio and shadowing along with twelve hours of main story and five more kicking around in the side missions.

We’re massive fans of what the Oddworld Inhabitants have mustered up over the years and well remember spending time with Stranger back in the day. We’ve been hands-on with Stranger’s Wrath HD in recent days too and that means our full review of how this plays on Xbox Series X|S is well underway. Stay tuned for it.

In the meantime, you can pick up Stranger’s Wrath HD on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S by visiting the Xbox Store. Do the same by taking a trip to the PlayStation Store if you’re a PS4 or PS5 player.

Game Description:

In the dusty, undeveloped wastelands of Western Mudos, cantankerous townsfolk find their settlements besieged by belligerent outlaws. Along comes Stranger, a tall, dark and enigmatic bounty hunter with a mission to capture troublemakers and scoundrels and return them to civilized townships for incarceration. But Stranger is keeping a secret and needs expensive surgery to survive. In his quest to earn enough Moolah, Stranger reluctantly accepts the ultimate bounty from the owner of the Mongo River and suddenly his adventure takes a very different turn.
