Imagine being a fox, but in space. You know, like a star fox. We can’t imagine it either, but luckily we have Jandusoft’s Space Revenge to make that dream real!

Space Revenge is out now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Space Revenge would make a shortlist of the drabbest game titles of 2021, but stop: it has some things going on that might make it worth a second look.

While it might be a twin-stick shooter, a reasonably saturated genre on the big black box, it takes an exploration-driven approach to the genre. You have boarded an enemy spaceship, and you’re working through, floor by floor and room by room, to deliver your bloody revenge. We’re not sure what the revenge is for – the trailer is a little light in that department – but it must be truly terrible to wipe out an entire space colony.

Graphically, we like a lot about Space Revenge. Clearly there are the main characters, who are a fox and wolf respectively, which is a nice change from macho space marines. But it’s the cel-shaded approach to the characters, bosses and enemies that teases Space Revenge into an interesting direction. A top-down, twin-stick Borderlands doesn’t sound all that bad.

There are fourteen levels to complete, with forty missions across them, which sounds like plenty. Four weapons to unlock sounds a little less generous, but we’re promised ‘intense action throughout’. A boss-rush mode is unlockable after the main game, so there’s more if you want it.

We’re intrigued by statements like ‘use the environment to your advantage’. We’re hoping that’s more than just the odd explosive barrel. More interestingly, ammo has different side-effects. A positive and negative to each ammunition that you use sounds unusual, and we’re eager to give it a go. Expect a review as soon as we can get our foxy paws on it.

Key features:

  • Story mode with 14 levels story-driven.
  • 2 characters to choose from.
  • Over 40 missions to complete.
  • Intense combat action to keep you engaged.
  • 4 Weapons to unlock
  • Boss rush mode unlockable after completing the game
  • Use the environment to your own advantage
  • Ammo with different side effects
  • Gorgeous 3D graphics
  • Ambient soundtrack

Space Revenge is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (Optimised no less!) and starts at £9.19 from the Xbox Store, with a reduction to £7.81 for launch. It’s also out on PS4, PS5, Switch and PC.

Game Description:

Space Revenge is an action-exploration game. Get ready to assault the enemy’s base and get your desired revenge! With a top down perspective, twin stick controls and a sci-fi mood to explore the enemy base full of dangers. The BSO will make you feel the tension of the game.
