Ghoulboy on Xbox is here to save your Halloween, by defeating one monster at a time. Just as well then as it has arrived today on the Xbox Store, in time for the spooky season.

Heavily inspired by the 2D platformers of the 90s and the 16-bit era, Ghoulboy is a modern take on the classics. Travel through gloomy environments – lit only by the moon in the sky – and defeat all manner of ghosts and goblins.

Ghoulboy will have several weapons at his disposal: a big sword, a small sword, a mace and a throwing weapon. These each have different ranges so picking the right tool for the right job is essential. Ghoulboy will also have access to a limited number of spears that whilst do damage enemies, are more designed for makeshift platforms to get around the levels and save the world.

You can be assured the music will be retro too, featuring a chiptune soundtrack to accompany your monster smashing. Across 25 levels and four bosses, can you direct Ghoulboy and his world to safety?

Time to put your money where your mouth is. Ghoulboy is available to download now priced at £8.39 on the Xbox Store. Early adopters can take advantage of a 20% discount if they purchase it early, down to £6.71. Let us know in the comments if you manage to get yourself a sweet little discount.

Game description

Find powerful weapons, items and spells to defeat your enemies and explore a magical realm of dungeons, towns, treasures and devious monsters. Ghoulboy is a retro-inspired style action platformer. Exciting new platformer that combines the action-RPG genre with hack ‘n’ slash gameplay. 2D action, heroic characters, gloomy environments, demonic bosses, these all seem to excite players a lot. Pixels will be combined with other cool retro elements and the result will certainly be something that will meet the needs. Once in-game, users will get to control a heroic character who will often be seen throwing a spear to create additional platforms. To boot, puzzle and combat elements will further enhance the experience. You wouldn’t want to miss out on it. With the gold that you collect, you can increase your health level, your arsenal of weapons to be thrown away. Slay as many monsters as you can, collect loot, avoid dangerous traps and defeat menacing bosses. Ghoulboy brings back the look and feel of the very best classic retro platformers from the 90’s, introducing refreshed and engaging gameplay mechanics. If you miss platformers from the 16-bit era, and think games nowadays aren’t that good anymore, think twice! Ghoulboy is for you.
