We’re not sure if there have been hundreds, thousands or even millions of side-scrolling shoot ’em ups released into the gaming world over the years, but we’d hazard a guess that most of them would have seen us trying to save a world of some kind. Step forward Counterattack to try something diff… exactly the same – as it releases on Xbox.
Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for £11.99, CounterAttack from Relative Software is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up in which we have to save earth from utter annihilation. We know, we know, just like we’ve done multiple times over the years.
But even though things feel extremely familiar here, we certainly feel like there’s space in the gaming world for another take on the oldest of tropes, especially as CounterAttack comes with a host of features.
For instance, you don’t need to take this one in alone as CounterAttack caters for not just the solo players out there, but those looking to team up to destroy all alien races. That multiplayer isn’t just locally based either, with Relative Software throwing online capabilities out there.
From there, it gets even more interesting. There are eight playable ships in CounterAttack, a ton of upgrades, some super powerful ultimates and the chance to customise and enhance your little shooting ship like never before. In fact, there are upwards of 500 attachments to drop onto your ships. That’s a lot.
When you include thirty-two levels, Endless survival modes and more, CounterAttack has a ton about it.
