Takorita Meets Fries is one of those ‘what did I just watch?’ kind of games, where the trailer makes you wonder whether you accidentally swallowed a hallucinogenic.

It’s a visual novel from Japan, and it tells a tale as old as time: a young princess from the underwater nation of Tako is tired of the taste of soup, so pops up to the surface and falls in love with a bag of fries. Like, McDonalds fries.

What I like most about this premise is that she doesn’t just stop there. Now that she’s hooked on fries, she wants to keep improving and perfecting them. So this takes her on a journey across the surface world, meeting various characters, as she looks for the ideal seasonings and cooking methods. Go girl, get that perfect fry.

Takorita Meets Fries is out now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

This is a chibi-style visual novel from Ratalaika, who have been on their game with quality in the genre. Cross the Moon and C14 Dating are just two of the better visual novels they’ve put out recently, and they’re bringing their expertise to Takorita Meets Fries, so we should see the same high quality of skipping functions and easy replaying.

There are four routes, three endings and one bonus epilogue to Takorita Meets Fries, so your choices will have definite impact. Let’s hope that the three endings represent the different fries she could end up with. We’d love a game built around the choice of crinkle-cut, French or curly fries.

Away from the food, there are some romance options, and Takorita Meets Fries has a diverse cast to chinwag with. You can be sure that we will give this TheXboxHub lowdown as soon as we can. Oh, and it’s Xbox Series X|S enhanced, to give you high-fidelity chibi chills.
